Succumbing to the Friendster Juggernaut
Okay, okay...after three years of refusing to have anything to do with social networks, I signed up for a Friendster account. So sue me :-)
In honor of my treachery to the anti social networking society, I offer to you an article about tinkering with your profile. Read on and enjoy.
Profile Up My Space
By TomTakihi
My Space is a popular social networking website that boasts of 95 million existing members and 500 thousand new members each week. If you've been spending even just a small amount of time online, I'm sure I didn't have to tell you how popular it is. Just the other day, CNN.COM reported that the U.S. Marine Corps has made use of Myspace.com as a recruiting tool seeing that this website has been the rage with teens and the early twenty something crowd. This invasion, if you will, would indicate the mass appeal of this social networking website that even a branch of the U.S. armed service found it advantageous to use it.
If you've seen personal pages at social networking sites like MySpace.com or Friendster.com, I'm sure you've found the vibrant people maintaining these sites to be a colorful and outspoken bunch. The amusing images are always a delight to see while the witty remarks in the comments area are often interesting and entertaining. My Space is all about personality and individuality. Members generally want a page that mirrors who they are and what they are all about. They want to put themselves out in the open for old and new friends to see. Now, a basic member's page is definitely not going to do that. Nobody wants his or her page to be just like everyone else's. Members usually upload video, graphics, pictures, background sounds and themes to their accounts and use them to personalize and enhance their pages. Another way to use images, videos and audio recordings would be to store these files in other websites and just put the links of these files in the preferences page at My Space. But other members want to make theirs really distinctive. So how would you make yours unique? The answer to that would be to customize the page using tools and implements not found in the My Space's built in preference panel. We have My Space tweak and modifications websites to thank for this truly personal option. Where else can you get a good code that won't mess up or slow the load time of your profile? Where else can you find a theme that reflects your style?
The tools found in these customization websites will help in generating little codes that will further make your page stand out by using images, pictures and sound that you have picked for yourself either from your own collection or from those that are already provided. This would be the ultimate in creating a tailor made page that suits who you are. Not only do these sites help you make your own layouts and graphic images, they also assist in making your page more to your liking be tweaking your comment boxes, how your profile is positioned and resize your comment images. I've saved the best for last. The niftiest thing that these customization sites can offer, for me anyway, is you can add flash games onto your personal page so people who view them can take a load off and play a game or two before looking at what's new in your page. Neat isn't it?
